Okay, so I came up with this term “millionized lifestyle” before we had the success we have now because I was in the mode of pretending we had money. Yes, just like a little kid, I pretended that we had all the money we needed to have the lifestyle we wanted. Well, it beat the HECK out of being miserable about all the money we’d lost in the economy meltdown and how we’d fallen so far that we’d actually passed what I would have previously considered to be ‘rock-bottom’ along with the whooshing sound it made as it went by.
So I picked up this great little book, The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace Wattles (email me if you’d like me to send you a free copy) and in it he talks about acting in a Certain Way – and my interpretation of that was to pretend that we had all the money we needed right at our fingertips.
What was interesting was that the more I did this, the more I realized just exactly how many things I already had that were part of my ideal – or ‘millionized’ lifestyle. I had my husband Wayne who is also my business partner, and we had our 3 great kids. Everyone was healthy, and we had moved from a very highly populated area in Florida to the peace and beauty of the Western NC mountains, so for us that was a major part of it right there.
I started to realize that there were parts of our lives that we would not exchange for a million dollars, and THAT’S what I mean when I talk about a millionized lifestyle.
And this is NOT about pretending that you really don’t want stuff, and that you are perfectly happy living on as little money as you possibly can. That’s fine if it’s true but it’s a lie if it’s not, and I’ve been there too, so I know this thing and I’m not going to let you do that to yourself.
To have a really great life – a fantastic life – in this world – which for me always includes having plenty left over to give back – you have to have an abundance of money.
What is an abundance? It’s anything you think it is. This is about YOUR millionized lifestyle. So it has absolutely nothing to do with the QUANTITY of money you have or don’t have, or how you spend it. It has to do with how you feel.
Now I know it sounds like I just contradicted myself, but if you really think about it you’ll get it.
I’m pretty sure some of you are getting a little tired of hearing this, but being affluent and abundant is really is all about your attitude to money, rather than the money itself. And I hear people making excuses about this all the time. I used to do it myself. Those convenient little voices in your head that provide perfectly valid-sounding ‘reasons’ for why you don’t have what you’ve always wanted. Stop and listen to yourself if you you don’t believe me.
I’m talking about those little comments like, “Oh, it’s okay for her to talk about a millionized lifestyle, because she has money, and she’s probably always had it and anyway, she probably has a rich husband that supports her, and by she got some good genes, and he was raised in a wealthy family so he KNOWS how to make money,” and on and on. Oh boy, if you’re believing this stuff, you couldn’t be more wrong. And it couldn’t be more sad, because it’s so not true!
And while I don’t really care what you think of me and the way I do things, I deeply care that you don’t sabotage your own success by making excuses as to why other people are successful and not you.
As someone who has been there where you are, over and over again, I am here to tell you that the real kicker is this: The REASON you don’t have everything you want right now is BECAUSE you are believing in those goofy little negative thoughts instead of believing in yourself.
And if you switched that around, just for a month, well – you’d never go back, I can promise you.
We as a family proved this to ourselves, and we went from living in a single-wide trailer to a 4,500 square foot soaring log home in less than 14 months. And we did NOT have a windfall outside of just changing our money mindset and deciding we were going to turn everything around and then going for it and taking on the attitude that it was going to work – that it was already working – and that everything we wanted was already on it’s way to us.
Oh, and a LOT of hard – but smart – work on our part. We were determined.
This strategy for achieving a millionized lifestyle, starting from living in a tin can with 3 kids, a dog and a cat and one car that only sometimes ran, worked for us and it can work for you. Really.
